Harry Potter Quotes
At the beginning of 2020, I set a goal to read 20 books by the end of the year. Half of those books were written by J.K. Rowling, 9 of them were from the Harry Potter series. I had read the Sorcerer's Stone in 2019 and finished the series in 2020. To be completely honest, it was one of the best series to read during a pandemic since it brought so much joy, wit and creativity to a year where it was easy to feel stuck and worried. As I mentioned in my 2019 book review, I had not read the series in the past, only saw the movies, so it was a lot of fun to relive the story. Reading them, also finally filled in the gaps of the story I had from only watching the films.
I am not sure if this makes me a complete nerd to have saved quotes from Harry Potter, but I couldn't help myself so here are some of my favorites. I'm sure I probably missed some as well, so for any other Harry Potter fans out there, please leave any in the comments.
Additionally, I found this beautiful instrumental guitar cover of some of the Harry Potter music performed by 40 fingers and attached it below.
Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone:
“Ah, music,” he said, wiping his eyes. “A magic beyond all we do here!” Dumbledore to students. 128
“Books! And cleverness! There are more important things- friendship and bravery”. Hermione to Harry 287
"There are all kinds of courage. It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends." Dumbledore to all students (Neville) 306
Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets:
"It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities." Albus Dumbledore 333
Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban
“That suggests that what you fear most of all is-- fear. Very wise. Harry”. Professor Lupin 155
"It made all the difference in the world, Harry. You helped uncover the truth. You saved an innocent man from a terrible fate." Dumbledore 425
Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire
"It is a strange thing, but when you are dreading something, and would give anything to slow down time, it has a disobliging habit of speeding up. The days until the first task seemed to slip by as though someone had fixed the clocks to work at double speed." 317 JK rowling
"If you want to know what a man’s like take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals." Sirius Black to Ron 525
“Curiosity is not a sin,” he said. “But we should exercise caution with our curiosity… yes, indeed…” Dumbledore to Harry 598
"You place too much importance, and you always have done, on the so-called purity of blood! You fail to recognize that it matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be!" Dumbledore to Cornelius Fudge 708
"Time is short, and unless the few of us who know the truth do not stand united, there is no hope for any us." Dumbledore to Snape and Sirius 712
"We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided. Lord Voldemort’s gift for spreading discord and enmity is very great. We can fight it only by showing an equally strong bond of friendship and trust. Differences of habit and language are nothing at all if our aims are identical and our hearts are open." Dumbledore to students in the great hall 723
Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix
"And always, of course, its advice is the same: stand together, be strong from within." Headless Nick talking about the sorting hat’s advice (the sorting hat’s new song)
"Well, I think you might be surprised how many people would be interested in hearing what you’ve got to say." Hermione to Harry about forming DA
“There is no shame in what you are feeling, Harry,” said Dumbledore’s voice. “On the contrary… the fact that you can feel pain like this is your greatest strength.” 823
"Youth cannot know how age thinks and feels. But old men are guilty if they forget what it was to be young… and I seem to have forgotten lately…” Dumbledore to Harry; 826
"According to Madam Pomfrey, thoughts could leave deeper scarring than almost anything else." 847
Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince
“Ah, Harry, how often this happens, even between the best of friends! Each of us believes that what he has to say is much more important than anything the other might have to contribute!” 359
“But to me, I’m afraid, you will always be Tom Riddle. It is one of the irritating things about old teachers. I am afraid that they never quite forget their charges’ youthful beginnings.” Dumbledore to Tom; chapter 20
“Well,” said Dumbledore, still smiling, “to a wizard such as myself, there can be nothing more important than passing on ancient skills, helping hone young minds.” Dumbledore to Tom 442
"Age is foolish and forgetful when it underestimates youth." Dumbledore to Harry 564
"Dumbledore would have been happier than anybody to think that there was a little more love in the world." Professor McGonagall 624
Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows

"You see what you expect to see." Dumbledore to Severus 679
“And his knowledge remained woefully incomplete, Harry! That which Voldemort does not value, he takes no trouble to comprehend. Of house-elves and children’s tales, of love, loyalty, and innocence, Voldemort knows and understands nothing. Nothing. That they all have a power beyond his own, a power beyond the reach of any magic, is a truth he has never grasped.” Dumbledore to Harry 710
"It is a curious thing, Harry, but perhaps those who are best suited to power are those who have never sought it. Those who, like you, have leadership thrust upon them, and take up the mantle because they must, and find to their own surprise that they wear it well." Dumbledore to Harry 718
"Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all, those who live without love." Dumbledore to Harry 722
"Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?" Dumbledore to Harry 723
Harry Potter and The Cursed Child:
"Those that we love never truly leave us, Harry. There are things that death cannot touch. Paint… and memory… and love." Dumbledore to Harry 258
"People think they know all there is to know about you, but the best bits of you are- have always been- heroic in really quiet ways." Ginny to Harry 277
"They were great men, with huge flaws, and you know what those flaws almost made them greater." Harry to Albus 308
